A desire to keep Flying For Fun to shorter distances for now has prompted Bryce Heys to focus his attention on Melbourne and a shot at the Schillaci Stakes. The dual black-type winner is set to be nominated for Saturday’s…

Trainer Bryce Heys plans to nominate dual black-type winner Flying For Fun for the Group sprint Schillaci Stakes over 1100 meters at Caulfield. The mare is heading to Melbourne because Heys opted to bypass the 1200-meter Premiere Stakes at Randwick, aiming to keep her to shorter sprint trips early in her campaign.
Flying For Fun resumed with an eye-catching finish behind Mazu in The Shorts over 1100 meters, finishing only 1-1/2 lengths back as a 51-1 outsider. Heys noted that keeping the mare at 1000 or 1100 meters early in her preparation best prepares her for longer 1200-meter targets later on.
