Diamondbacks’ Playoff Path to Catching Padres, Phillies is Very Specific

The Arizona Diamondbacks remain mathematically alive in the National League Wild Card race with four games left in the regular season. Arizona sits at 84-74 behind the San Diego Padres at 88-70, alongside the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs. The Diamondbacks are the only outside team still capable of earning a postseason berth before the season concludes on Sunday, September 27.

To catch San Diego, Arizona must defeat the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, have the Padres lose to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and then sweep a three-game weekend series against the Padres at Petco Park. Alternatively, Arizona holds the tiebreaker over Philadelphia and can surpass them if the Phillies struggle against the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.
