Gabriel Moreno’s career year lands D-Backs’ first batting champion in franchise history

Gabriel Moreno made Arizona Diamondbacks history by becoming the franchise's first player to win the National League batting title. The 26-year-old catcher finished the season with a .311 batting average, edging the Philadelphia Phillies' Luis Arraez by one percentage point to become just the fifth catcher in MLB history to earn the crown.

Despite the milestone, Arizona was eliminated from postseason contention on the final day of the regular season. Moreno missed the finale after being scratched due to a hamstring injury sustained while running bases, concluding a career year in which he hit 16 home runs with 83 RBIs.
