Christian Horner and Helmut Marko’s relationship rapidly deteriorated towards the end of their time at Red Bull, especially when it came to power within the team.
Former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner revealed on The F1 Show that Helmut Marko felt uncomfortable with the hiring of Laurent Mekies. Horner explained that Marko grew uneasy about shifting influence, fearing that power was consolidating in the United Kingdom rather than remaining centered in Austria following the death of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz.
Horner hired Mekies alongside Peter Bayer to lead the rebranded Racing Bulls squad, with Mekies later replacing Horner at Red Bull in 2025. Following their departures, the relationship between Horner and Marko deteriorated entirely, with Marko dismissing Horner's new book, Drive, as untrue.
