Well the list of potential new GM’s for the A’s got a little smaller on Saturday morning. Jeff Passan reports that Phillies General Manager Sam Fuld has turned down an offer by the A’s to take over the front office…

Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Sam Fuld has rejected an offer to become the Athletics' President of Baseball Operations, according to a report by Jeff Passan. Fuld chose instead to remain in Philadelphia working under President Dave Dombrowski. The Athletics had offered him full authority to oversee baseball operations and assemble his own front office staff.
Following Fuld's decision, Boston Red Sox Assistant General Manager Taylor Smith has emerged as a top candidate for the open Athletics position. Smith, who oversees analytics under Craig Breslow in Boston, would receive the title of President if hired. Meanwhile, St. Louis Cardinals AGM Rob Cerfolio is reportedly expected to stay in St. Louis.
