The St. Louis Cardinals are being urged to consider New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe as a potential trade target this offseason. FanSided's Robert Murray suggested that the 25-year-old could benefit from a change of scenery after experiencing a turbulent 2026 season. Volpe was optioned to Triple-A in August before being recalled by the Yankees in September.
While the Yankees reportedly still believe in Volpe and want to keep him, other teams are expected to inquire about his availability. A trade proposal from FanSided's Christopher Kline suggested a deal sending Volpe, Brent Headrick, and Kyle Carr to St. Louis in exchange for shortstop Masyn Winn.
