Counsell playing Cubs’ postseason rotation close to the vest

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell has not yet announced his starting rotation for the National League Wild Card Series against the San Diego Padres. The Cubs wrapped up their regular season with a 6-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field on Sunday. Left-hander Matthew Boyd and right-hander Kevin Gausman appear to be the primary candidates to start Game 1 on Tuesday.

Gausman completed an encouraging bullpen session on Sunday following a left shoulder injury sustained Wednesday against the Marlins. Meanwhile, left-hander Shota Imanaga threw just one inning in the regular-season finale against Boston and is projected to be available as early as Game 2. Starting pitchers Clay Holmes and David Peterson are also expected to be options beginning in Game 2.
