Rebuilding the starting pitching rotation is the Chicago Cubs' top priority this offseason, according to president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. The ballclub faces the possibility that its entire five-man rotation from the end of the regular season could reach free agency following an 89-win campaign that ended in the postseason.
Left-hander David Peterson, right-hander Kevin Gausman, and left-hander Shota Imanaga are set to hit free agency, while Matthew Boyd, Clay Holmes, and Colin Rea hold contract options. Internal depth includes Javier Assad and Ben Brown, alongside several pitchers returning from injuries such as Cade Horton and Justin Steele.
