The Story in 60 Seconds

Chicago Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy will retain his position heading into the 2027 season despite a difficult 2026 campaign, according to a report from The Athletic. Assistant pitching coach Casey Jacobson will also return to his role under manager Craig Counsell. Hottovy has served as the Cubs' pitching coach since 2019 after initially joining the organization's run-prevention department in 2014.

In 2026, the Cubs ranked 27th in Major League Baseball with 6.0 pitching fWAR and posted a 4.12 ERA. Writer Aldo Soto argues that while organizational scouting and pre-existing injury risks contributed to the staff's struggles, Hottovy must address high pitcher injury rates and 231 home runs allowed.
