Construction to install crash-rated security bollards around Wrigley Field begins on Monday, October 12, the Chicago Cubs announced in an email to neighborhood residents. The project will take place in phases across all four streets surrounding the ballpark and is scheduled for completion by Opening Day 2027. Major League Baseball required the enhanced security measures before awarding the ballpark the 2027 MLB All-Star Game.
The cost of the bollard installation is being split between the Cubs, the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois. The phased construction will cause various street and sidewalk closures along Sheffield Avenue, Waveland Avenue, Addison Street, and Clark Street through the offseason, though Gallagher Way and surrounding businesses will remain open throughout.
