David Bednar has the look of someone the Chicago Cubs should be interested in this offseason, but the Yankees are expected to extend a qualifying offer.

The New York Yankees are reportedly expected to extend a qualifying offer to reliever David Bednar, potentially complicating the Chicago Cubs' offseason bullpen plans. If the Cubs target Bednar in free agency, signing him would require surrendering draft-pick compensation and international bonus pool money, according to a report cited by Jordan Campbell.
Bednar recorded an ERA of 2.47 and 35 saves this season with the Yankees. Campbell suggests the Cubs might still pursue him, as extending a qualifying offer to Seiya Suzuki could yield draft compensation to offset any potential loss.
