Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable confirmed that left-hander Anthony Kay will serve as an opener ahead of right-hander Sean Burke in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday. Burke, who struck out eight batters over four innings in his Game 2 Wild Card start, will take on a bulk-inning role following Kay's opening matchup against Cleveland's top hitters.
Burke previously posted a 3.34 ERA during the regular season and has extensive experience pitching behind openers. Chicago's bullpen will also monitor the availability of Hagen Smith and Grant Taylor after their strong scoreless contributions in Game 1.
