Don Cooper Passes Away

Former longtime Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper passed away earlier this week at the age of 70, the team confirmed on Wednesday. Cooper spent 33 seasons coaching in the White Sox organization, including an 18-year tenure as the major league pitching coach from 2002 through 2020. During his time with the club, he helped guide the team to a World Series championship in 2005.

Throughout his coaching career, Cooper worked with notable pitchers including Mark Buehrle, Jose Contreras, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, and Chris Sale. Prior to his extensive coaching career, Cooper played four seasons as a major league pitcher with the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Yankees before retiring in 1985.
