Don Cooper Passes Away

Former longtime Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper has passed away at the age of 70, the team confirmed on Wednesday. Cooper spent 33 seasons within the White Sox organization, including an 18-year tenure as their major-league pitching coach from 2002 through 2020. During his tenure, he helped lead the franchise to a World Series championship in 2005.

Cooper also pitched four seasons in the majors between 1981 and 1985 with the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Yankees. As a coach, he was credited with aiding the development of numerous standout pitchers, including Mark Buehrle, Jose Contreras, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, and Chris Sale.
