MLB.com released its postseason Power Rankings evaluating the 12 teams entering the playoffs after the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros secured the final berths. The Milwaukee Brewers claimed the number one ranking following the best regular season in franchise history, ahead of the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers at number two.

The Tampa Bay Rays were ranked third after posting a 55-26 home record, followed by the National League East champion Atlanta Braves at fourth and the New York Yankees at fifth. Other ranked contenders included the Chicago Cubs in sixth, the Boston Red Sox in seventh, and the San Diego Padres in eighth.
