The No. 3 seed Astros recovered from an early 20-31 record to finish 81-81, while the No. 6 seed White Sox completed an unexpected turnaround to finish 84-78 and earn their first playoff appearance since 2021.
Manager Will Venable's White Sox relied heavily on young hitters, including Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas, and Colson Montgomery, who each hit over 30 home runs. Houston advanced behind designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, who led Major League Baseball in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, alongside pitcher Peter Lambert who made a team-high 29 starts.
