I don’t believe it’s a hot take when I say that production from the catcher’s position is few and far between across the league. This isn’t anything new, either. The degree of volatility wavers so much from year to year…

Cristian Crespo of Just Baseball argues that the Colorado Rockies should still trade catcher Hunter Goodman to accelerate their rebuild. Goodman is coming off a productive campaign in which he hit 41 home runs and drove in 88 runs across 138 games. Despite below-average defensive metrics, Crespo contends that Goodman's power and three remaining years of club control make him a highly valuable asset on the trade market.
Crespo points out that Goodman has previously drawn interest from teams such as the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Tampa Bay Rays. With Goodman entering arbitration and projected to make $5.4 million, the writer argues that Colorado should capitalize on the scarce league-wide production at catcher to net a substantial package of future talent.
