Texas Rangers center fielder Evan Carter underwent right hip labrum surgery and is not expected to be ready for Opening Day of the 2027 season, president of baseball operations Chris Young announced. Young indicated that while the 24-year-old is expected to play a significant portion of the campaign, Texas must address the position in the short term.
Carter struggled offensively during the 2026 season, batting .194/.288/.315 with nine home runs across 141 games. To address the vacancy, the Rangers could explore outside acquisitions or move outfielder Wyatt Langford to center field.
