The Cleveland Guardians have claimed infielder José Tena off waivers from the Washington Nationals following a team announcement. Tena was originally signed by Cleveland before being traded to Washington in 2024 as part of the deal for outfielder Lane Thomas. He was recently designated for assignment by the Nationals.
Across parts of four major league seasons, the 25-year-old infielder has hit .240/.303/.358 across 659 plate appearances. Because Tena is out of minor league options, he must either earn a spot on Cleveland's Opening Day roster or face designation for assignment again.
