Houston Astros rookie outfielder Lucas Spence hit three home runs to lead his team to a 7-5 comeback victory against the Athletics on Thursday. Entering his 16th career game, the 23-year-old had zero career home runs before finishing the day 3-for-4 with five RBI. The victory keeps Houston tied with the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West with three regular-season games left.
Spence opened the scoring with a three-run homer in the second inning before the Athletics responded with four runs in the third. Spence then delivered a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh inning and added an insurance solo home run in the ninth to secure the win.
