Houston Astros manager Joe Espada stated he hopes to return for a fourth season in 2027 despite his expiring contract. His comments followed Houston's two-game Wild Card Series sweep by the Chicago White Sox, marking a third consecutive year without a deep playoff run. Espada plans to discuss his future with Astros owner Jim Crane.
Espada took over as manager in November 2023, but Houston posted a .500 regular-season finish in 2026 alongside severe starting pitching struggles. The franchise also needs a permanent baseball operations leader after general manager Dana Brown mutually parted ways with the team in late August.
