The Kansas City Royals plan to replace hitting coach Alec Zumwalt, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Zumwalt is not being fired and will remain with the organization as senior director of hitting performance, but he will no longer serve on the daily major league coaching staff.
Zumwalt originally took over as hitting coach in May 2022. While Kansas City showed rate-basis improvements this season behind breakout performances from Jac Caglianone and Carter Jensen, the offense consistently ranked near the bottom of Major League Baseball in runs scored, home runs, and walk rate throughout his tenure.
