Freddy Peralta was a trade-deadline afterthought following his brutal stint with the Mets. Now he's looking to revitalize the Rays in the World Series.

Bill Shaikin writes that baseball's conventional wisdom failed to foresee Freddy Peralta's resurgence as he prepares to start Game 3 of the World Series for the Tampa Bay Rays against his former team, the Milwaukee Brewers. After a poor stint with the New York Mets where he posted a 4.99 ERA, Peralta was traded to the Rays, revived his season, and was named ALCS MVP.
The turnaround followed technical adjustments made by the Rays, who shifted Peralta to pitch from the stretch and moved his position on the pitching rubber. Shaikin notes that Peralta's fastball velocity increased from 94 mph with New York to 97 mph in the postseason, restoring his value heading into impending free agency.
