Trevor Plouffe says a general manager telling a player to improve or lose his position, in public, would be all the motivation he needed.

MLB analyst Trevor Plouffe reacted to Philadelphia Phillies president Dave Dombrowski publicly warning shortstop Trea Turner about a potential position change. Following Philadelphia's NL Wild Card elimination, Dombrowski revealed he held a two-hour meeting with Turner, stating the shortstop could be moved if his defense does not improve. Speaking on Jomboy Media's "Baseball Today," Plouffe questioned whether Dombrowski needed to publicly display the ultimatum to the media.
Turner struggled during the 2026 season, batting .242 with 21 errors and minus-10 Outs Above Average. The 33-year-old infielder is four years into an 11-year, $300 million contract. Dombrowski cited Bryson Stott along with prospects Aidan Miller and Bryan Rincon as possible internal shortstop alternatives if Turner is shifted across the infield.
