Seattle is searching for a replacement after dismissing Dan Wilson, and the club has also received permission to interview former Astros manager Joe Espada.
Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto reportedly prefers a manager with prior experience. Baldelli previously compiled a 527-505 regular-season record and won three division titles with Minnesota before being dismissed, and he is eager to return to managing following the Dodgers' recent elimination.
