Writer David Melendi gave Mets pitcher Kodai Senga a "D" grade for his 2026 season, which saw him struggle heavily in the rotation before finding late success as a reliever. Senga finished the year with an 0-9 record, a 7.34 ERA, and eight saves in 31 appearances, recording the highest ERA in baseball among pitchers throwing at least 60 innings.
Senga lost his starting job after posting a 10.08 ERA across his first seven starts but transitioned effectively to the closer role following an injury to Devin Williams. Heading into the final guaranteed season of his five-year contract, team officials noted that a decision on whether Senga will start or relieve in 2027 remains undecided.
