NEW YORK – Aaron Judge was noticeably absent when the Yankees took the first-base line for introductions ahead of Tuesday’s Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Red Sox.

Aaron Judge missed on-field introductions prior to Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox because he was receiving medical treatment. Manager Aaron Boone explained that the Yankees captain was tending to his recovery following an on-field workout. Judge was left off the 26-man Wild Card roster due to a moderate right calf strain suffered on September 16 against the Minnesota Twins.
Judge participated in running drills before Tuesday's game and traveled to Double-A Somerset on Wednesday for live batting practice against pitchers including Luis Gil and Eli Morgan. While sidelined for the opening round, Boone noted the team has not ruled out adding Judge for a potential AL Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, though Tropicana Field's turf will be considered.
