Red Sox pregame brag fell on deaf ears after Cam Schlittler’s Yankees playoff dominance

New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler dominated the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card series, leading New York to a 9-0 victory. Schlittler tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out 10 batters on a career-high 117 pitches. The dominant outing improved his career ERA against Boston to 0.47 across 38.2 innings in both regular season and postseason play.

Boston heavily prepared for Schlittler by using the Trajekt pitching machine for weeks to simulate his delivery and pitch shapes. However, Schlittler altered his strategy by throwing his curveball 27 percent of the time, generating a career-high 24 swings-and-misses. The loss leaves the Red Sox facing postseason elimination in Game 2 against Yankees left-hander Max Fried.
