Sonny Gray's strange neck substance looked an awful lot like pine tar, and his defiant comments after the New York Yankees downed the Boston Red Sox were suspicious.

Fans and observers raised suspicions of pine tar use by Boston Red Sox pitcher Sonny Gray during Game 2 against the New York Yankees. Social media users noted a brown substance resembling pine tar on his neck, which Gray frequently touched between pitches. Gray surrendered two earned runs on six hits across 4 2/3 innings before being removed by manager Chad Tracy.
Yanks Go Yard reports that Gray expressed frustration over his fifth-inning removal after throwing 70 pitches, asserting he is the best pitcher in the American League the third time through the order. Following the defeat, Gray indicated that his future with Boston remains uncertain.
