The Yankees need to move on from Ryan McMahon at third base, and one league source believes it's possible.

A league source suggests the New York Yankees could potentially trade third baseman Ryan McMahon this winter if they agree to pay down part of his remaining salary. McMahon is owed $16 million in 2027, the final year of his contract, following an underwhelming tenure after being acquired from the Colorado Rockies at the 2025 trade deadline.
Pat Ragazzo of Yanks Go Yard argues that moving on from McMahon is necessary after he batted .213 with 11 home runs and a 0.0 bWAR across 124 games last season. The writer notes that even absorbing half of McMahon's salary would allow New York to pursue better options at third base.
