Gerrit Cole is set to start Game 1 of the American League Division Series for the New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay Rays, but manager Aaron Boone's planned four-man rotation means Cole may only make one appearance in the best-of-five series. Cole could only pitch a second time if the series reaches a decisive Game 5.
Boone announced that Cam Schlittler will start Game 2, while Carlos Rodón and Max Fried are slated to start Games 3 and 4 in some order. The rotation setup avoids pitching anyone on short rest following New York's Wild Card series sweep over the Boston Red Sox.
