Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

The Philadelphia Phillies announced that Don Mattingly has been named their full-time manager on a two-year contract covering the 2027 and 2028 seasons. Mattingly had served as the team's interim manager following the dismissal of Rob Thomson earlier in the 2026 campaign. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski confirmed the managerial decision following Philadelphia's elimination by the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wild Card Series.
Alongside Mattingly's retention, the Phillies initiated a coaching staff shakeup by firing hitting coach Kevin Long and infield coach Bobby Dickerson. The organizational moves come after an underwhelming conclusion to the 2026 season, with Dombrowski scheduled to address the decisions at an end-of-season press conference.
