Veteran reliever Kirby Yates pitched the final game of his 12-year MLB career on September 26 at Comerica Park. Starting for the Pittsburgh Pirates against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers, Yates made the first and only start of his professional major league career in his farewell appearance.
Yates, who went undrafted out of junior college and debuted at age 27, previously won a World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025. His career highlights also include a standout 2019 season with the San Diego Padres, where he led MLB with 41 saves and earned an All-Star selection.
