Verlander to end fabled career against the man he started it with

Justin Verlander is scheduled to make the final start of his Major League Baseball career on Saturday at Comerica Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pirates manager Don Kelly, who previously played alongside Verlander in Double-A and with the Detroit Tigers, will manage the opposing team during the right-hander's farewell appearance.

Kelly and Verlander shared a long history in Detroit's organization between 2009 and 2014, as well as during Kelly's coaching tenure in 2019. Pirates pitching coach Bill Murphy also previously worked with the three-time Cy Young Award winner during their time with the Houston Astros.
