Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Freddy Peralta admitted he could not have imagined reaching the 2026 World Series following his struggles with the New York Mets earlier in the season. Peralta was named American League Championship Series MVP after throwing 5 1/3 innings and allowing one run in Tampa Bay's 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 6 on Monday at Tropicana Field.
The Mets dealt Peralta to Tampa Bay on August 2 in exchange for Aidan Smith, Emilien Pitre, and Gary Gill Hill. After compiling a 5-9 record and 4.99 ERA with New York, the right-hander revitalized his season, posting a 5-2 mark and 3.25 ERA for the Rays before going 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in the ALCS.
