The Story in 60 Seconds

The Boston Red Sox reportedly attempted to acquire catcher Hunter Feduccia before the trade deadline to pair with Adley Rutschman. According to Rob Bradford of WEEI, Boston made a run at Feduccia, but the Tampa Bay Rays ultimately traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The move came as Boston also acquired Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a package of top prospects and Carlos Narváez.

Feduccia's arrival would have displaced veteran backup Connor Wong, who struggled offensively down the stretch. Singer notes that while Rutschman is established as Boston's primary backstop, the team faces an upcoming contract extension decision before he reaches free agency after the 2027 season.
