Front Office Sports reported on Nov. 2 that Lucas Giolito, the Padres right-hander, donated $1,250 to Abdul El-Sayed's principal campaign committee.

MLB pitcher Lucas Giolito explained his support for Michigan U.S. Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed after donating $1,250 to his campaign committee. El-Sayed, a progressive Democrat and former public health official, defeated Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan's open Senate race to become the first Muslim senator in U.S. history.
Front Office Sports reported the donation, contrasting Giolito's support with at least 10 major American sports team owners who backed Rogers. Giolito, who pitched for the San Diego Padres during the 2026 season on a one-year, $3 million contract, is currently a free agent.
