Key Things to Know
  • Writer Fabian Garcia argues the San Diego Padres should explore a trade for Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran.
  • Duran posted a career-worst .207 batting average with 20 home runs and 21 steals during the 2026 season.
  • The proposed deal would address the Padres' need for left-handed power and an everyday starting left fielder.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Fabian Garcia of the East Village Times argues that the San Diego Padres should revisit acquiring Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. After previously targeting Duran at the 2024 trade deadline, Garcia suggests the Padres now have an ideal opportunity to buy low following Duran's difficult 2026 campaign, in which he slashed .207/.266/.361 across 151 games.

Garcia contends that Duran's speed, 20-homer power, and left-field defense would fill a critical vacancy in San Diego's lineup. To facilitate a trade, Garcia proposes that the Padres could package expendable major leaguers such as reliever Wandy Peralta or catcher Freddy Fermin to satisfy Boston's roster needs without sacrificing significant prospect depth.
