As much as this season has undoubtedly been a complete failure for the Seattle Mariners, don't fall for the narrative that their contention window is closing.

The Seattle Mariners faced intense criticism following the collapse of their 2026 campaign, despite entering the season with significant postseason expectations. Major outlets like MLB.com had previously projected Seattle to capture the American League pennant after the franchise came within eight outs of reaching the World Series the prior October.
The disappointing year came after a sustained period of success in which the Mariners were one of only four MLB teams to win at least 85 games annually from 2021 through 2025. Although their championship aspirations fell short, analysis suggests the overwhelming negative reaction stems from elevated expectations created by that five-year stretch.
