Cole Young is officially in the running for a Gold Glove. He's come far in just one year, and might still go further.

Seattle Mariners second baseman Cole Young has been named a 2026 American League Gold Glove finalist after leading all AL second basemen with +16 Defensive Runs Saved. The 23-year-old is competing for the award alongside Chicago White Sox second baseman Chase Meidroth and Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey.
Zachary Rymer argues that while Young made significant defensive strides and accumulated 4.4 rWAR in 2026, his next challenge is developing his bat. Rymer suggests that if Young improves upon his 17 home runs and 99 OPS+, he could transition from a rising contributor into an All-Star.
