Seattle claimed Grant McCray off of waivers. He has some potential but won't be more than a depth piece.

The Seattle Mariners have claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, marking the club's second waiver addition of the offseason following Michael Toglia. McCray, a former 2019 third-round draft pick, posted subpar offensive numbers in Triple-A and has recorded just 247 career plate appearances in the major leagues.
Writer Jason Wang argues that while McCray struggles offensively, his elite speed and 98th-percentile arm strength make him a useful defensive substitute or pinch runner. With Randy Arozarena departing and Victor Robles' option declined, Wang notes Seattle needs further additions beyond McCray to resolve their outfield concerns.
