Under-the-radar Mariners coaching candidates from MLB (AL Central)

Writer Kate Preusser examines under-the-radar coaching options from the American League Central who could fit the Seattle Mariners' staff. While acknowledging that the Mariners have reportedly narrowed their managerial search to Joe Espada and Jason Kanzler, Preusser argues that nontraditional candidates from across the division remain compelling targets for managerial or coaching roles.

The proposed candidates include Birmingham Barons manager Patrick Leyland, Royals assistant director Kevin Howard, Tigers third base coach Billy Boyer, Twins bench coach Mark Hallberg, and Guardians assistant director Alyssa Nakken. Preusser highlights factors such as developmental philosophies, Pacific Northwest geographic ties, and on-field experience as key assets for the potential hires.
