Truly top to bottom, this was Cleveland Gaurdians taking the Rays to school. The pioneers of dragging old school small ball baseball into the modern era kicking and screaming show why the original is oftentimes the best. Matchups make fights…

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 7-3 in Game 1 of the ALCS at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay built an early 2-0 lead in the first inning against starter Foster Griffin with hits from Junior Caminero, Victor Mesa Jr., and Johnny DeLuca. However, Cleveland fought back behind solo home runs from Chase DeLauter and Patrick Bailey, eventually taking control late in the contest.
Darby Robinson argues that Cleveland outclassed Tampa Bay across all phases, criticizing manager Kevin Cash's bullpen choices and defensive miscues in the late innings. Former Ray Nathaniel Lowe delivered a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth, and Cleveland added three runs in the ninth off Cole Sulser and Kevin Kelly before Cade Smith closed out the Guardians' win.
