Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan has been shut down for the remainder of the postseason, manager Kevin Cash announced Sunday. McClanahan had been sidelined since September 3 due to left forearm tightness. Although the club previously hoped he might return for the American League Championship Series or World Series, the Rays chose to hold him out as a precaution following his significant workload this year.
Cash stated that McClanahan is currently healthy and is expected to be fully ready for next season. In his comeback campaign, the 29-year-old posted a 10-7 record with a 3.36 ERA across 24 starts. Meanwhile, Drew Rasmussen has been named the starting pitcher for Game 1 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.
