Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson has been named one of nine American League outfield finalists for the Silver Slugger Award. Simpson hit .306 with 46 stolen bases and a 7.8% strikeout rate, despite finishing the season without hitting a single home run.
If selected when winners are revealed on November 17, Simpson would become only the third non-pitcher to win the award with zero homers in a season, following Pete Rose and Ozzie Smith. He would also be the first position player in Major League Baseball history to win a Silver Slugger with zero career home runs.
