ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays can tell you plenty of stories to show what kind of a teammate Nick Martinez has been inside their clubhouse. The team dinners. The postgame celebrations. The inside jokes and moments of been-there, done-that leadership.…

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Nick Martinez reflected on his impactful season and uncertain future following the team's 4-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 5 of the World Series. Rays manager Kevin Cash praised the 36-year-old veteran as the rock of the clubhouse, noting his leadership, clubhouse presence, and readiness to pitch out of the bullpen in the ninth inning on consecutive nights.
Martinez posted a 15-6 record with a 3.10 ERA across 180 innings in the regular season and surrendered just five runs in 16 postseason innings. His contract includes a $20 million mutual option for 2027 with a $4 million buyout, leaving his return to Tampa Bay uncertain as the Rays begin their offseason decisions.
