The Seattle Mariners have reportedly received permission to interview Houston Astros manager Joe Espada for their vacant managerial position. Espada is in the final year of his contract with the Astros, who granted their American League West division rivals permission to conduct the interview following the conclusion of their season.
Seattle is searching for a replacement after firing manager Dan Wilson following a 76-86 finish in 2026. Houston owner Jim Crane previously dismissed general manager Dana Brown in late August, and the decision to allow Espada to interview elsewhere reportedly suggests the Astros do not expect him to return for 2027.
