As disappointing as the end to Wyatt Langford's 2026 was, there are some real reasons for the Texas Rangers to extend him before he hits his arbitration years.

Writer Stephen Parello argues that the Texas Rangers should consider signing 24-year-old outfielder Wyatt Langford to a contract extension this offseason. Langford is entering his first year of salary arbitration after completing his third Major League season. Parello notes that an early extension covering his arbitration years and buying out early free-agent seasons could provide financial security and cost certainty for the Rangers' front office.
Despite inconsistency and injuries throughout 2026, Langford recorded a 115 wRC+ on the year, matching his career offensive average alongside solid defensive metrics. Parello suggests that acting before potential labor disruptions and locking in below-market rates could result in a significant future bargain for Texas if the young outfielder continues to develop.
