Nationals To Designate José Tena For Assignment

The Washington Nationals announced several roster moves, officially designating infielder José Tena for assignment. Pitchers Paxton Schultz and Mitchell Parker were claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves, respectively. Additionally, left-handers PJ Poulin, Richard Lovelady, and Ken Waldichuk cleared waivers and chose free agency ahead of key roster management deadlines.

Tena, originally acquired from the Cleveland Guardians in 2024, hit .240/.303/.358 across 227 career major-league games. Washington now has five days to either trade Tena or place him on waivers. Meanwhile, Lovelady, Poulin, and the injured Waldichuk all elected to enter free agency rather than accept outright minor league assignments.
