Nationals To Hire David Besky As Pitching Strategist

The Washington Nationals are expected to hire David Besky as their pitching strategist, according to reports. Besky spent the last three seasons with the Boston Red Sox, most recently serving as director of baseball sciences. The hire represents an addition to manager Blake Butera's coaching staff rather than a replacement, filling a role previously held by Sean Doolittle before his promotion to assistant pitching coach.

In his new role with Washington, Besky will handle pitch calling and arsenal analysis. The move reunites Besky with Nationals president of baseball operations Paul Toboni, who previously worked in Boston's front office during Besky's tenure. Before his time with the Red Sox, Besky spent three years working as a data scientist at Driveline Baseball.
